GROUND WASP

GROUND  WASP - around their homes. What are wasps like? Here are five facts.

Predatory wasps Toxinologist Dr. Tri Maharani MSi SPEM revealed that the ndas wasp or Vespa affinis was not a honey wasp, but a predatory wasp.

GROUND  WASP - 5 FACTS ANYTHING IS DANGEROUS

1. This type of wasp has the ability to enter its venom into the human body.
There are small doses, if one or two wasps sting, and high doses if the wasps that sting are many and can cause hyperallergy.
Meanwhile, entomologist from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Hari Nugroho revealed that the ndas wasps have spread in tropical Asia,
and not a new breed. Get information, inspiration and insights in your email. Register email By Day,
The ndas wasp has easily recognizable body characteristics, namely a rather large body size and a length of about three centimeters, a black body and yellow or orange stripes on the abdomen.

2. The nest can reach 2 meters

Wasps are colony animals that often move from one place to another to make nests. However, this wasp nest is considered disturbing local residents.
Apart from Klaten, ndas wasp nests were also reported in the cities of Solo, Sukoharjo, Boyolali, and also Sragen.
The Klaten Fire Department (Damkar) Coordinator, Nur Khodik, said that he had destroyed hundreds of wasp nests. In 2017, there were 217 nests and 207 nests in 2018, and in 2019 there were 22 nests.
Unmitigated, this wasp nest can reach 2 meters in diameter. This nest is usually found hanging in a tree,
cupboards, and roofs. According to Nur, the fire department usually destroys wasp nests by burning them and using certain substances that are adapted to the presence of wasp nests.

3. The role of the wasp ndas

In the ecosystem, the residents who were disturbed by the ndas wasps also had time to ask about the existence of the massive ndas wasps in the Klaten area. Hari said that the characteristics of Klaten Regency were that it was a good habitat for ndas wasps to breed, because the location of the settlements was surrounded by agricultural land.
This is what makes the wasps feel safe from the weather and predators, such as the Asian honey eagle. According to Hari, total eradication of wasps is not a wise move because these animals have an important ecological role for the environment,
one of them as natural pest control. If the ndas wasp population is eliminated, he predicts that the position of the ndas wasp will be replaced by another type of wasp, thus not solving the problem. Therefore, Hari suggested that there should be an integrated control effort to consider human safety,
such as moving the wasp nest to a safe location.

4. Effects of stings and
their handling In small doses or stings of about 1-2 wasps, Vespa affinis venom causes allergies with symptoms such as swelling.

When exposed to this small dose of sting, it needs to be treated by means of compresses with ice or if the sting remains, it can be removed. Then, the patient is given analgesics and antihistamine or corticosteroid drugs until the swelling subsides.
Meanwhile, if the wasp stings in large numbers, it can cause hyperallergy which if left untreated will progress to anaphylaxis to systemic or organ damage in just a matter of days.
The most fatal effect is to cause acute pulmonary edema or a condition that causes a buildup of fluid in the lungs that makes it difficult for the patient to breathe. In addition, the other most common effect is acute renal failure in which kidney function declines.
Treatment measures for patients who experience acute pulmonary edema, which must be treated with pulmonary edema, such as expelling lung fluid. Meanwhile, patients with kidney failure should be given treatment for kidney failure, such as hemodialysis.
If the stung patient undergoes proper emergency treatment, then the patient can still be saved from the Vespa affinis poison.

 5. It takes awareness of the science of toxonomy Indonesia is located in geographical conditions and unique biodiversity that makes fauna diversity different from those in foreign countries. In the case of this ndas wasp, not many experts know and can make antivenom in Indonesia.
Therefore, Dr. Tri hopes that there will be a poison center in Indonesia to accommodate experts and deal with animal poisons in Indonesia.
